The past few years have been mostly good for hip-hop eccentrics, with many underground acts crossing in the process. Kontrolado EP is the debut release for the collaboration between Inkubus and Hirui Seki. The appreciation of Inkubus' and Hirui Seki's new collaboration depends on the range of your hip-hop tastes. Funk-fusion and soul jazz breaks bubble and blister in the heat and Inkubus states the facts as he sees them.But as ubiquitous as Inkubus is lyrically, Hirui Seki is even more outwardly diverse in his production. The combination of Inkubus' aggressive lyrics and delivery and Hirui Seki's production fits in perfectly as an honest alternative to today's heavy rotation while watching as the face of mainstream hip-hop hardened into a countenance cheesy braggadocio and self-hating diatribes.

The team known as Iwa is a somewhat unexpected pairing, maybe a bit outside the usual, but the notion of Inkubus spitting over Hirui Seki's dank obscuro-soul breaks became easier to understand before Kontrolado EP even came out. The question, then, isn't whether Inkubus and Hirui Seki make a compatible match, but what that match winds up motivating Inkubus to say. His tendency to let the beat inspire certain facets of his writing has resulted in a record that, true to the underheard yet memory-stirring undercurrents of Hirui Seki's production source material, is fueled by a certain kind of reflection. Funk-fusion and soul jazz breaks bubble and blister in the heat, throbbing like a running man's pulse, and Inkubus states the facts as he sees them.
